Day 1 of fieldwork today in Castro Verde (in southern Alentejo). Great to be back in Steppe Land. Worked with my excellent team (Rea and Dan) on our field methods, which was good. Saw most expected common and scarce species today - bustards, sandgrouse, harriers, larks etc. Not easy to photograph (and no time really) but a brilliant day to be and out about. We are staying at the lovely LPN field study center - CEAVG.
